What does "transition to independence" therapy look like?
It is a comprehensive, individualized approach. We don’t just talk about feelings; we build the literal scaffolding for a self-sufficient life. This includes:
- Clinical Support: Utilizing CBT and Mindfulness to manage the anxiety and depression that often keep people paralyzed.
- Skill Building: Practical coaching on financial literacy, time management, and professional communication.
- Career Exploration: Identifying innate interests and turning them into actionable vocational goals.
Why is this transition so difficult for young adults today?
It’s a perfect storm of factors. Between a competitive job market and the weight of student debt, the “traditional” milestones of adulthood have moved further out of reach. When you add internal struggles—like social anxiety or ADHD—the prospect of independence can feel overwhelming. My role is to break these “giant” adult tasks into manageable, confidence-building steps.
How long does this process usually take?
There is no “magic number,” but because I use Solution-Focused Therapy, we aren’t looking to stay in therapy for decades. We set specific goals and work toward them. Some clients feel a shift in a few months; others stay longer to navigate bigger transitions like moving out or finishing a degree.
Will you tell my parents everything we talk about? (For the Young Adult)
Trust is the most important part of our work. Unless there is a safety concern, what we talk about stays between us. While I often involve parents in the process to help fix family dynamics, I do so in a way that respects your privacy and autonomy.
What can we expect as an outcome?
This isn’t a “quick fix,” but rather a process of building resilience and self-belief. Clients who struggled to commit to college, or who are paralyzed by social anxiety, have found success by aligning their daily actions with their personal values. You can expect to develop:
- Stronger decision-making skills.
- Better emotional regulation and stress management.
- A clear, actionable plan for living independently.
Do you offer in-person or telehealth sessions?
I provide [In-person/Telehealth/Both] for clients located throughout New Jersey. Telehealth is often a great, low-pressure way for young adults to start the process from a space where they feel safe.
Do you take insurance?
I am a private-pay provider and do not accept insurance or provide Superbills. As an LCSW-candidate practicing under clinical supervision, I offer a lower rate compared to many other therapists to help increase access to care. This rate is available to all clients while I am completing my supervision period.
